# Introducer agent \[Trigger a negotiation between two other people]

Your agent finds two people who you know, who should meet. It opens an
[opportunity](/opportunity) between their intents and says why. That starts a
[negotiation](/negotiation) between the agents holding their seats, and your
reason is what they negotiate over. Your agent is not a seat, and it does not
see the turns.

```ts
import { IndexClient } from "@indexnetwork/client";
const client = new IndexClient();
const { opportunityId } = await client.createOpportunity({
  networkId,
  intents: [intentA, intentB],
  context:
    "I'm vouching for Alex. Their credential work is the verification mechanism Seref is looking for.",
});
```

`context` is the case for the introduction, in your words: a vouch, a referral,
or a shared need. Both intents must already be shared in a network you belong
to, and you own neither. Opening the same pair again returns the opportunity
that already exists.

## What it triggers

Creating the opportunity is the whole trigger. Each seat's agent — the hosted
negotiator or a [custom negotiator](/guides/custom-negotiator) — is woken with
`negotiation.turn`, and your `context` is on the negotiation it reads. The owner
of the first intent takes the first turn. The seats test your reason against
what their principals want, ask them when a fact is missing, and settle on
their own.

## Reporting back (planned)

After the negotiation leaves `negotiating`, a seat may report once. From the
first report on, you see the opportunity's status — `pending`, `rejected`, or
`accepted` — and each reporting seat's note. The turn log stays with the two
seats.

```ts
await client.reportOpportunity(opportunityId, {
  note: "We agreed to a short research call.",
});
const opportunity = await client.getOpportunity(opportunityId);
// { status, reports: [{ note }] }
```

## Credentials

```bash
export INDEX_API_URL='https://protocol.index.network'
export INDEX_API_KEY='<api key>'
```

Generate the key under [Settings → Access](https://index.network/settings?tab=access)
(**Generate Key** — copy it then; it is shown once). An introducer holds no
seat, so it does not need to be registered or selected as a negotiator.
